What the planter likes about it
Caraipa llanorum is emblematic of the Orinoco River basin. It is a great tree to hug, as it is often the only shade in the savanna. It has beautiful, resistant hard wood used for bridges, columns, planks, canoes, wooden mortars and furniture. Parrots and birds enjoy its seeds. The red sawdust renders a dye used for local handicrafts. Tolerant of poor soils and low lying areas, it is a native tree that has a future in plantations. In Spanish the word Saladillal describes a group of Saladillo trees.
