Presentation

Choerospondias axillaris is a large, deciduous, and subtropical tree; it normally grows from 15 to 20 meters tall, although some trees can grow up to 30 meters tall; the bole normally grows around 30 to 40 cm in diameter. Lapsi trees are reported to be native to Nepal and its range includes East Asian: Japan, China, India, Bhutan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. It grows in lowland, hills, and mountain forests and it’s found in secondary forests. It’s found in the wild mainly on wet, deep soils, or on heavy clay or sandy clay soils. Lapsi is a fruit tree and it has been recognized as a potential agroforestry tree. The fruits, high vitamin C content, can be eaten raw or made into juices, ice creams, sweets, and jellies. The fibrous bark can be used for making rope. The wood is soft and is used as a light construction timber, for making general furniture. The wood is also used for fuel. It is also used as a pioneer fruit tree in reforestation projects.
